Day in the life series: Giulia, Consultant

Do you ever wonder what a day in the life of a consultant looks like? Well, wonder no more! As a consultant at Oxford Insights, our days are always varied, but there are some things that stay the same. This week, we’re publishing a series of short blogs to share what a typical day at OI looks like for different team members across the UK.

To start, here’s a sneak peek into a typical day for me:

I usually start my day with a few delayed alarms, despite my best efforts to build in some quiet time in the morning. Hey, nobody’s perfect! I live in London and love working from home, but there’s something about going into the office that I can’t resist. Luckily, I’m able to walk to the office on the days I do go in since I live close by. It’s the perfect opportunity to catch up on my favourite podcasts or take some morning update calls.

Once I arrive at the office, I get straight into my routine of checking messages, emails, and newsletters before diving into project work. Currently, I’m working on a data exchange project for the Government Digital Service. Sometimes, as a counsultant you’ll get to work from other offices, which is always a nice change of scenery. On Thursdays, I work from the GDS office, which is conveniently located down the street from Oxford Insights.

My project day starts with a daily update call with my team, where we discuss our goals and tasks for the day. Then, I tackle my work until lunchtime. On office days, we usually have lunch together, which is always a nice way to catch up with everyone. As an international team, we’ve had to negotiate appropriate lunch times, but we’ve built a good routine that works for everyone. When the weather is lovely, we love taking advantage of the communal terrace. And, when the day is done, there’s always the option for a drink with anyone who’s up for it.

On days when I work from home, I like to fit in some workout classes in my schedule. I might start a little later or take a longer lunch break to make time for this. And, when I get the chance, I like to work from abroad. I’m originally from Italy, and being able to visit family and friends while still being able to work is a real perk.

So, there you have it, a day in the life of a consultant at Oxford Insights. No two days are ever the same, but that’s what keeps things interesting!
